HISTORY
Among the most important discoveries in Greece, the Dikili Tash (upright stone), is one of the oldest excavated prehistoric tell settlements dating back to 6500-1200 BC. Some of the unique elements that characterize its history include: the houses, daily chores, lake hunting, clay artifacts and first winemaking recorded in Europe.

An exploration of the cave paintings dating back to the Bronze Age in Krioneri and Pangeo will ensue. The natural landscape, the caves in the area and the plain of Philippi are inextricably linked with the life in prehistoric times.

PROGRAM
FULL DAY
Gathering at starting point Guided Tour at the monument of Vibius Quartus, the so-called “Orthopetra” or “Dikili Tash”. Otherwise known as the “crib of Bucephalus” overlooking the homonym hill of the prehistoric settlement. Here we will discuss the prehistoric settlement, the population’s history, any archeological findings and discoveries. Guided Tour at the Krioneri Cave paintings – We will continue our expedition chronologically and head to the village of Krioneri and its cave paintings while discussing the prehistoric engraves and the stories they depict. The entire plain of Philippi will be visible allowing our imagination to illustrate life back then, the lake, as well as unravel later historic events all surmounting to the importance of this land. Guided Tour at the Environmental Natural Path of Palea Kavala. An impressive guide through the natural terrain of this well preserved path, bird and flower watching through the whole route, watermills and waterfalls. Lunch at traditional restaurant with Park Philippi gastronomy. Return to hotel (For summer period there is the option to head to the beach)
